3 years …

Well, between this post and the last, it has passed 3 years … 3 years … It is clear that the last 3 years have been very engaging. “Don’t post anything” does not mean “do nothing”.

Dans ta Cuve !

This is one of the photographic activities that took me more time over the last 3 years. The associative life is fun but always armored with various and varied twists. I was sure there would be activity but not at this point.

Arrivals, departures, meetings, need some sleep, organization, reorganization and especially the choices that please and the choices that do not please. We spend a lot of time defending and presenting the project. A lot of time. Too much time maybe.

Summarizing 3 years is totally impossible, but for short … I have to say THANK YOU! I have so many things to tell you about the backstage of Dans ta Cuve !

In short, the project is in perpetual evolution and we do many things for having a result you like. Sometimes this leaves us a bit on the kneecaps but still we are still standing and should continue at the same rythm.

“Don’t post anything” does not mean “do nothing”.  Between the tests of the cameras , the tests of products (film, chemicals), the arrival of a small fuji x100 (the 1st generation) and some quick video editing, there wasn’t enought time to take pictures. Fewer concerts, fewer portraits but a lot more very personal pictures and shots taken in the street (What ? Street Photography?). This is the only style that is best suited and which allows to test films, analog cameras, all on lunch breaks sometimes quite short.

I tested to develop films one year later. I highly recommend it. I also changed my method. I don’t develop any more, I wait to have a dozen films to get me to work. Time saving ? No, but a very important setback on the photos, a better self-criticism and a better organization in classification, storage and archiving.

Videos

There will surely be a few more videos. I want to engage in interviews / portraits of artists. It takes time too, but I’d like to make at least one for this year.

2017 ?

Perhaps there will not be enormous novelties. Difficult to make but I will try to post much more often pictures. There will surely be some tests of old (and / or alternative) photography processes, a little video, a bit of everything;)

A lot of projects in mind all the same, even if they remain rather oriented around Dans ta Cuve! We have aside our respective blogs to better take care of the association. It may be time to reverse the trend. The desire to transmit a little more makes its way so we will see.

Did you find this post useless ?  Welcome to the blog ! My Blog ! See you in 3 years? 😉

Portrait : Melody

During one of the pictures taken for the calendar Vini Garage Company meetings, I took the opportunity to test a photo configuration that I had not yet experienced in analog : Use a medium format camera with a cobra flash (Nikon SB-600 ) in softbox 60×60, both being connected by a set of Cactus Trigger.

Medium Format Camera used : Hasselblad 500CM and his 80mm 2.8

Portrait : Myriam

Here is one of the portraits during a photo session with Myriam. Means used Format: Mamiya 645. I used a Kodak Trix film exposed at ISO 800 and developed in the LC-29.

Thank you to Miriam, who has wanted to be my model for an afternoon!

An article on this film? Well yeah, why not … The film was given to me by Arnaud Legrand (@legrandphoto on twitter) during one of our “Apero Photo” organized by the association Dans ta Cuve ! I don’ use often color, especially in 135 where I have trouble with the final result. In short, there is not much Kodak film 400 CPU films and it really touched me. The development was made by Anaïs !! Thank you so much to both.

I waited a bit before using the film, I wanted a little special time and a great opportunity. Done since all the shots were made during a trip to Venice this summer. The color rendition is very interesting, beautiful colors with a very light made a little bland / vintage … what interested me a little more photography in color;) All pictures were taken in a very active sun with a 28mm Olympus OM2 + all the time between F11 and F16.

Video – HellFest 2013

Here is a video shot entirely with Camero Go Pro (version 1). Many videos circulating on the net in the same style: Go Pro camera mounted on the camera.

This video has nothing exceptional but I am interested in many things :

  • What led me to start a moment in the entire scene ?
  • Miss I the good time ?
  • The critical aspect another person have photographed the same scene differently than I’ve lived ?

The image freezes a moment while the non camera. This revolutionary non-observation, I took the advantage of using a fisheye camera and use a 50mm lens. The whole video, what the eye sees, and a standard length of habit and convention to not having a physical proximity to the subjects.

We know for a while but the practice of analog film, because of the number of poses and its cost, we “forced” to choose the right moment to take a photo, think about, to frame, etc. .. . With digital, I could burst trigger and select “THE” picture that I liked.

The video is an additional support to the practice of photography. A fixed time and pulled the global scene. I came to realize that by the time I got the picture I wanted but also the photo that I did not want. I would have waited one second, half a second later or earlier and I could have had THE photograph.

This above all amused me and I will start this experiment. The eye in the viewfinder, focused on the scene unfolding before me … missing in all that is happening around me. Video demystifies why and how the image.

This kind of video is nice but be careful not to abuse it. It allowed me to show that we can not be everywhere. You can not photograph everything. Fortunately elsewhere;)

The experience would be to try again in a different context: a 17mm during a manifestation.

Trip to Etretat

“Get in the car”
“Where do we go ?”
“Ah Ah … surprise in 3 hours” ….

3 hours drive to try to guess where we were going … while wishing to keep the surprise … And … Welcome to Etretat !

When the photographer observes the graphic

There was some time, I have been contacted by Sevh, one of the guitarists OLS group to achieve specials photos of his new group: One Last Shot.

Well … you take your camera bag and you shoot … In general, it is not completely shown in the pictures made, or just retired photos and finalized. But what prompted me to write this article was to show that it had been very good graphic : Da Ghost Prod. The photos shown below are raw without editing exposure, etc …

It’s good to see the images in another vision, another “context” and reworked by another person, including a graphic.
